The Challenge

The Challenge

Bidfood provides over 60,000 businesses in the UK with leading wholesale foodservices. With an annual turnover of over £2 billion, it operates from 24 depots and 4 regional distribution centres across the country with a team of more than 4,300.

From restaurants to pubs to hotels, Bidfood's customers are geographically spread across the whole of the UK and often need to order supplies on the move. Bidfood needed to transform its desktop site from its static PDF webpages into a fully-transactional online catalogue that could be accessed on mobile devices from anywhere at anytime.

What we did

What we did

After thoroughly identifying and evaluating Bidfood's business ambitions for the project, Inviqa launched into developing one of the first B2B ecommerce websites to be built on the Magento Enterprise platform. The sheer scale and complexity of the project was unprecedented, including the implementation of a database of 10 million different user prices.

Once the desktop site had been revamped, Inviqa and Bidfood turned their attention to creating a mobile-optimised site, a first for the delivered food wholesale industry. At the end of the collaborative planning process, it was concluded that Bidfood required two things; to deliver a B2C-like experience for its clients, and to provide a different experience for customers on both desktop and mobile.

Together Inviqa and Bidfood launched brand new sites for both desktop and mobile that incorporated bespoke customer pricing across their 25,000-strong product catalogue.

Bidfood's customers can now:

  • place and manage orders at their convenience online

  • confirm stock availability and review product recommendations based on their order history

  • order multiple baskets for delivery on different dates

  • all account information and orders are synced across all devices to provide a full multi-channel experience.

The two new sites have helped Bidfood improve customer satisfaction through enhanced usability and faster processing of orders.
